In the early morning hours of October 5th, K9 Riggs was deployed for a track of a subject that Law Enforcement was attempting to locate for their safety. During the track, my body camera mount got caught causing it to fall off my chest. Due to it being dark and the current situation, the mount was unable to be located at the time. Later in the evening of October 5th, 12 hours later, K9 Riggs was deployed to the area where the mount was lost for an article search. Once again, K9 Riggs demonstrated how good his nose is, locating the mount in the tall grass and laying down in front of it to show me where it was. K9 Riggs once again earned an extra dog treat for all his hard work!

Earlier today I found that I had misplaced a key for the box in the back of our patrol car that holds our patrol equipment. Riggs and I went back to the last placed we trained and I deployed Riggs for an article search. Riggs made quick work of locating the small key laying in the grass. Riggs then laid down in front of the key to show me where it was. I say it all the time, but I’m truly lucky to have such a great partner!

During the evening hours of July 26, 2023, K9 Riggs was assisting with a vehicle pursuit where the driver of the vehicle had crashed and fled on foot. K9 Riggs was deployed for a track of the suspect in a near by pasture, where a neighbor reported seeing the male suspect running. K9 Riggs picked up the track quickly and began to lead officers through multiple pastures, over several fences and through a woods before eventually catching up to the suspect in a pasture. The suspect was the taken into custody without further incident and booked into the LaGrange County Jail on several criminal charges. K9 Riggs earned an extra dog treat for his great work!

LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office K9 Riggs has received donation of body armor.

LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office K9 Riggs has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Riggs’ vest was sponsored by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. and embroidered with the sentiment “This gift of protection provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.”.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and NIJ certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 5,127 vests to K9s in all 50 states at a value of $6.9 million, made possible by both private and corporate donations.

The program is open to U.S. dogs that are at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, while a single donation of $985 will sponsor one vest. Each vest has a value of $1800.00, weighs an average of 4-5 lb., and comes with a five-year warranty. For more information, or to learn about volunteer opportunities, please call 508-824-6978. Thank you LaGrange County Public Library for letting K9 Riggs come help with story time Tuesday! K9 Riggs showed off his obedience skills and then got to hang out with the kids for a bit.

During the early morning hours of May 21st, while assisting his shift partner who had located a male passed out in the driver seat of a vehicle. Riggs used his nose to perform a free air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle. Riggs alerted to the presence of narcotics odor coming from the vehicle.

Inside the vehicle, Deputies located approximately 26g of Methamphetamine, Fentanyl, Prescription Pills, Drug Paraphernalia and two hand guns. The vehicle was also found to be stolen.

As a result, the suspect was initially charged with: Conversion (Stolen Vehicle), Dealing Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine with a Firearm, Possession of Legend Drug, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Paraphernalia and Driving while Suspended-Prior. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

Riggs earned a extra dog treat for his great work!

Training days are our favorite! I tried finding a hiding spot that would be hard for Arrow Anderson, but there’s no fooling his nose!
