What a wonderful day in Jean Lafitte as we celebrated the 128th Independence Day of the Philippines and honored the rich history and lasting contributions of the Filipino community in our region.
The celebration began with a flag ceremony at the Manila Village Historical Marker, recognizing the legacy of the Filipino settlers who established one of the first Asian communities in the United States right here in Louisiana. The festivities continued with a potluck lunch, fellowship, and cultural program at the Jean Lafitte Auditorium.
Happy 128th Independence Day, Philippines! May this special day be a reminder of the values of freedom, resilience, unity, and hope. We extend our best wishes to Filipinos across the globe and especially to the vibrant Filipino-American community that continues to enrich our culture and strengthen our communities.

It was a great day in Jean Lafitte as Governor Jeff Landry signed House Bill 857, landmark legislation that strengthens Louisiana seafood labeling laws and helps protect our commercial fishing industry. This important law, sponsored by State Representative Tim Kerner, ensures consumers know where their seafood comes from while supporting the hardworking fishermen who make Louisiana seafood the best in the world. While in Lafitte, Governor Jeff Landry also visited the new Louisiana Wetlands Educational Center. Today was a proud moment for Lafitte and for Louisiana's seafood industry!

Today at 1:00 p.m., Governor Jeff Landry will join State Representative Tim Kerner in Jean Lafitte for the signing of House Bill 857, legislation that strengthens seafood labeling laws and helps protect Louisiana fishermen from imported and commingled seafood being marketed as Louisiana seafood.
Louisiana's fishermen work hard to provide the finest seafood in the world. This legislation is another step toward ensuring consumers know where their seafood comes from and protecting the livelihoods of those who make their living on our waters.
