Week 11 of the Lafayette Fire Department Recruit Academy is in the books! 🚒🔥

This week, our recruits continued sharpening their skills through hands-on training, teamwork, and real-world scenarios designed to prepare them for the demands of the fire service. From building confidence on the fireground to mastering critical lifesaving techniques, these recruits are continuing to grow stronger every day.

The dedication, discipline, and determination shown throughout the academy have been outstanding, and we’re proud to showcase their progress in this week’s video recap.

The Lafayette Fire Department will be holding it's annual Memorial Day Service on May 25 at 8:30 am at LFD Station 5 on the corner of Union and Creasy.

Held annually, this ceremony is a means to honor the memory of those brothers who have passed away during the prior twelve months. This year we will honor the following retirees who passed away in 2025-26:

Retired Firefighter Barry Roberts - 6/10/2025
Retired Firefighter Vincent Vaughn - 7/13/2025
Retired Operations Chief Tim Batta - 8/17/2025
Retired Lieutenant Richard Koning - 2/24/2026

We also pay tribute to nine members lost in the line of duty spanning 111 years from 1914 - 2025.

The public is welcome to attend.

Today, the Lafayette Fire Department Special Operations Division had the opportunity to train alongside the Indiana State Police.

Our HazMat Team worked directly with the ISP Clandestine Lab Team, providing hands-on, scenario-based training designed to challenge real-world decision making. These evolutions included operating downrange in Level A hazmat suits and identifying simulated clandestine lab environments.

Strong partnerships and realistic training like this ensure both agencies are prepared to safely and effectively respond to complex hazardous materials incidents.

🚨 May is Stroke Awareness Month! Knowing the signs can save a life. Every second counts! Did you know? Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a stroke.

A stroke is a medical emergency that can happen to anyone, at any age. Knowing the warning signs allows for quicker treatment and better recovery rates.

Remember B.E. F.A.S.T. to spot a stroke:
o Balance: Sudden loss of balance?
o Eyes: Vision changes?
o Face: Uneven smile or drooping?
o Arm: Weakness in one arm?
o Speech: Slurred or confused?
o Time: Call 911 Immediately!
