🚨Louisiana Voters decide Saturday if we permanently lower taxes, give teachers a pay raise, and help senior citizens with Amendment 2. What are the facts vs. fiction on Amendment 2? See more.
➡️ Fiction: Churches will get taxed.
Fact: This is 100% false. Amendment 2 protects church buildings from taxes in the Constitution and all churches - and nonprofits - in statute. None will be taxed with a yes vote. Period. (See the official LA State Department of Revenue memo on this here: https://makelouisianagreatagainpac.com/churches )
➡️ Fiction: Teachers will not get a salary increase.
Fact: The Louisiana Federation of Teachers endorsed Amendment 2 because it will provide a permanent pay raise for teachers and support staff. This is done with along with a connected enabling statute, a law. Teachers will get no raise next year without Amendment 2, there is no stipend going forward. Amendment 2 pays down teacher retirement fund debt and then uses the regular debt payment savings to provide a teacher and staff permanent pay raise.
➡️ Fiction: Seniors will not benefit from Amendment 2.
Fact: Amendment 2 doubles the senior citizen tax deduction. Seniors keep more of their hard earned money.
➡️ Fiction: It is just for politicians and rich.
Fact: Amendment 2 has no connection to politicians or politician pay. It helps Louisiana create jobs and grow the economy by encouraging Parishes to end taxes holding back job creation. Governor Landry and the GOP majority put forward Amendment 2, but it was supported with a unanimous vote in the State Senate, with every Democrat joining every Republican in voting to send it to you, the voters of Louisiana for your approval.
➡️ Fiction: Amendment 2 is too complicated to be in one vote.
Fact: Louisiana's constitution is one of the largest and most complicated in the nation. Amendment 2 actually streamlines Article 7 of the Constitution, making it cleaner and easier.
🗳️ Protect the homestead exemption, reduce debt, lower taxes, provide teachers a pay raise, help our senior citizens, all in voting yes on Amendment 2. Let's move Louisiana forward.
