September is National Preparedness Month to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time. Being prepared and knowing steps to take during a disaster can greatly reduce the danger and distress you and your family may face. For starters, we recommend signing up for Boulder County emergency alerts through the Boulder Office of Disaster Management:

Did you know that the Lafayette Police Department, in partnership with the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority (CATPA), has made catalytic converter labelling kits available to the public to deter, and aid in the prosecution of, catalytic converter thefts? Kits include all the necessary materials to label and etch your vehicle’s catalytic converter for identification purposes. Catalytic converter labeling will allow identification of your catalytic converter in the event it is stolen and later recovered by law enforcement. The unique identification code is entered into a federal database. The kit is simple! If you are interested in a free kit or would like more information, please contact LPD Community Engagement Coordinator, Natosha Wittman, 303-661-1383 or [email protected].

“Know Your Options. Know Where They Can Ride. Know How to Ride Safely.”

Before your child rides anything electric, know the options, where they can ride, and how they can ride safely. Rules change by age, location, and bike type. Choosing the right bike is step one; helmets, lights, speed limits, and predictable riding are step two. Learn more at: https://bouldercounty.gov/climate/e-bikes/.

Thanks to the following agencies for assisting with this safety video: Boulder County Community Planning and Permitting, Boulder Police Department, Boulder Valley School District, Lafayette Police Department, and Longmont Public Safety.
