Acadiana Area Human Services District To improve the quality of life for those who have behavioral health and/or developmental disability in Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St.

Martin, and Vermilion parishes since July 2012. Acadiana Area Human Services District was created by the Louisiana State Legislature under the provisions of the Louisiana revised statutes (LSA-RS): R.S. 373 to provide administration, management, and behavioral health adult services, behavior health children/adolescent services, and developmental disabilities services to citizens of Acadia Parish, Evangeline Parish, Iberia Parish, Lafayette Parish, St. Landry Parish, St. Martin Parish, and Vermilion Parish.

💙 September | Su***de Prevention Awareness Month 💜

Su***de prevention begins long before a crisis. It begins when we notice someone is struggling. When we ask the question we’re afraid to ask. When we listen without trying to fix everything. When we remind someone that they matter and that they don’t have to face a difficult moment alone.

September gives us an opportunity to have those conversations more openly and to recognize that su***de can affect people of every age, background, and circumstance. Awareness matters because connection can create a bridge to help, and knowing what to do can make that bridge stronger.

At Acadiana Area Human Services District, su***de prevention is woven into the behavioral health work we do every day. Our teams provide mental health counseling, psychiatric services, crisis support, substance use services, and connections to community resources for individuals and families throughout Acadiana.

And prevention belongs to all of us.

💜 September | National Recovery Month 💜

Recovery happens together.

It happens in the decision to ask for help. In the friend who answers the phone. In the family member who keeps showing up. In the counselor who listens without judgment. In the community that makes room for someone to begin again.

National Recovery Month is a time to celebrate the many paths of recovery from mental health and substance use challenges and to remind our community that recovery is not something anyone should have to navigate alone.

At Acadiana Area Human Services District, we see the power of connection every day. Through behavioral health counseling, substance use treatment, psychiatric services, medication-assisted treatment, crisis services, and community-based supports, our teams walk alongside individuals and families as they work toward the lives they want.

Recovery doesn’t always happen quickly, and it rarely looks the same for everyone. But with the right support, connection, and compassion, hope has somewhere to grow. 🌱

This September, let’s celebrate every step forward and the people who help make those steps possible.

💜 August 31 | International Overdose Awareness Day 🧡

Behind every statistic is a person. A parent, a child, a friend, a neighbor. And behind every loss is a circle of people left carrying grief.

International Overdose Awareness Day gives us an opportunity to remember those we have lost, support those who are grieving, and bring compassion to the people who are still here. It also reminds us that substance use disorders are health conditions, not moral failures, and that recovery is possible.

At Acadiana Area Human Services District, we believe people deserve support before a crisis, during a crisis, and throughout recovery. Our clinics provide substance use treatment, individual and group counseling, psychiatric services, medication-assisted treatment, crisis services, and connections to community resources for individuals and families who need support.

Overdose prevention is community work. It means learning the signs, talking openly about substance use, reducing stigma, and knowing where to turn when help is needed. Most importantly, it means remembering that one conversation, one connection, or one decision to reach out can save a life. 🤍

Today, we remember. We raise awareness. And we keep showing up for the people and families of Acadiana. ⚜

July 24th is International Self-Care Day! This day is a gentle reminder that caring for yourself is not selfish, it is essential. 🤍

Self-care is often misunderstood as something extra or indulgent, but in reality, it is a foundational part of mental, emotional, and physical well-being. When we take time to rest, recharge, and tend to our needs, we are better able to show up for our families, our work, and our communities. You cannot pour from an empty cup.

Self-care looks different for everyone. It doesn’t have to be big or complicated to be meaningful. It can be as simple as:

✨ Taking a few quiet minutes to breathe and reset
✨ Drinking water and nourishing your body
✨ Going for a short walk or spending time outside
✨ Setting healthy boundaries and saying “no” when needed
✨ Connecting with someone who makes you feel supported
✨ Allowing yourself to rest without guilt

At Acadiana Area Human Services District, we understand that wellness is built through small, intentional choices over time. Supporting mental health means supporting the whole person; including the importance of rest, balance, and compassion toward yourself.

July 22nd is National Fragile X Awareness Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness, increasing understanding, and supporting individuals and families impacted by Fragile X syndrome 💙

Fragile X syndrome is a genetic condition that can affect development, learning, behavior, and social interaction. It impacts individuals across all stages of life and can also affect parents, caregivers, siblings, educators, and support systems who walk alongside them each day. While experiences can vary from person to person, many individuals with Fragile X have unique strengths, abilities, and perspectives that deserve to be recognized and celebrated.

Awareness matters because understanding creates inclusion. Increased education can help reduce stigma, encourage earlier identification and support, and foster communities where individuals and families feel seen, valued, and empowered.

At Acadiana Area Human Services District, supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and behavioral health needs is part of our commitment to strengthening our communities. We believe every person deserves access to resources, support, opportunities, and compassionate care that helps them thrive and reach their fullest potential.
