Lafayette Transportation System Plan Update & Traffic Counts

In 2026, the City of Lafayette began work to update its Transportation System Plan (TSP). The TSP is a long-range plan for how people get around the City. The TSP will guide investments in streets, sidewalks, bikeways, and other transportation improvements over the next 20 years to make travel safer and easier for everyone.

The City has created a dedicated webpage for the TSP update, which includes information and a link to the project page hosted by the City's consultant.

Traffic Counts in Lafayette:
The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is collecting traffic counts in Lafayette in support of an update to the City’s Transportation System Plan. These traffic counts will be conducted in September 2026. Counts taken on Highway 99W (3rd Street) will use cameras to record traffic movements for counting. With the recent controversy over the use of cameras for public surveillance, concerns have been raised about the use of cameras for collecting traffic counts. The City has shared these concerns with ODOT and they have provided the following information in response:
• Both ODOT and their contractor, All Traffic Data Services, have policies that prohibit the use of traffic count cameras from collecting license plates or other identifying information.
• The cameras being used to collect traffic counts have a low resolution that is not sufficient to read license plates or identify individuals by facial features, ethnicity, or other personal characteristics.
• Each camera installation will be clearly labeled with contact information for All Traffic Data Services.
The City has a copy of data privacy policies from All Traffic Data Services and ODOT, along with a sample image taken by a traffic count camera. This information is available on request.

The City of Lafayette has created a webpage with information about the measure appearing on the November 3, 2026 General Election ballot.

The webpage includes the official ballot title, explanatory statement, and information to help residents understand the measure before voting.

Spanish-language information is also available at the bottom of the webpage and as an attachment.
