A powerful voice for abused and neglected children in foster care within Lafayette, Acadia and Vermil

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) are community based volunteers who provide a voice for abused and neglected children. CASA advocates serve children who have been removed from their homes and placed in foster care. Judges refer the cases of child abuse and neglect to CASA so that one volunteer can be the voice for that abused or neglected child. CASA volunteers consistently conduct at leas

t monthly in person visitation with the child. The CASA advocate's relationship with the child is based on consistency and the advocate ensures that the child is receiving the support and attention he or she needs while in foster care.

We are pleased to announce the addition of Shelby Kander to the CASA of SoLA team! We are excited to welcome her as our new Advocate Supervisor alongside Shanel Jackson!

In her role, she will support our volunteers, advocate for children in foster care, and help ensure that every child we serve has the opportunity for a safe, permanent, and nurturing home.

We are thrilled to have Shelby join our team as we continue our mission of being a voice for children in our community.

LGBTQ+ youth in foster care often face challenges such as discrimination, family rejection, and a lack of affirming support, which can lead to feelings of isolation and instability.

Like all children and youth in the child welfare system, they deserve safe, supportive, and nurturing environments where they are respected and valued. Today, the CASA of SoLA team remembers and honors those who have fought and served for our country. Our nation is indebted to the bravery our veterans show each and every day, and we cannot show our thanks enough!

Our office will be closed today in honor of memorial day, and we look forward to being back open again tomorrow!
