Quint 5B responded to yet another duck rescue yesterday.

At this point, we’re considering adding “Waterfowl Retrieval Specialists” to the side of the truck. This makes duck rescue number 2 (or maybe 3?) in just a few months.

The ducklings are safe, the crew is undefeated, and apparently word has spread throughout the local duck community.

Congratulations to Local 472 President Trent Richter (Center Right) on his election as 2nd District Vice President of the Professional Fire Fighters Union of Indiana (PFFUI)!

Delegates from across Indiana gathered this week at the 50th PFFUI Convention in Indianapolis to conduct union business, discuss issues affecting professional fire fighters, EMTs, and paramedics, and elect the union’s leadership for the coming term.

As 2nd District Vice President, Trent will serve as a resource for locals across Indiana, helping provide support, guidance, and assistance to members and local unions throughout the district. The 2nd District stretches from Richmond to Angola to Lafayette and represents fire fighters from communities across a large portion of Indiana.

We are proud to see one of our own elected to this important leadership position and know he will represent the members of Local 472 and the fire fighters of the 2nd District with integrity and dedication.

Please join us in congratulating Trent on this well deserved achievement!

Yesterday members of Lafayette Fire Department gathered at Station 5 to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country this Memorial Day.

We were proud to spend part of the day with our community reflecting on the meaning of sacrifice, service, and remembrance.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and helped make today special, and thank you to all who continue to serve our nation and our communities.

Today, we remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.

Their courage, dedication, and selflessness gave us the freedoms we enjoy every day and their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

This Memorial Day, we ask everyone to take a moment to reflect, remember, and honor those who gave everything for our nation.

From all of us at Lafayette Indiana Fire Department, we wish you a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

Station 3C recently assisted with filling SCBA bottles for Tate & Lyle. Tate & Lyle maintains its own emergency response team ( ERT) and utilizes self-contained breathing apparatus during hazardous materials incidents.
Lafayette Fire Department also regularly trains alongside their team, whether it’s hazardous materials response or technical rescue. Strong partnerships and shared training help make everyone safer and better prepared when emergencies happen.

We’re always happy to support our community partners and help keep their teams prepared and ready.

Over the next two weeks, as you pass our memorial at Station 5 on Creasy Lane, you may notice crosses honoring our brothers who have served, retired, and have been called home, reminding us of those who have come before and paved our way. Each cross serves as a powerful reminder of their selfless dedication and unwavering commitment to our community.

We are often asked the significance of the crosses positioned separately in front of the memorial. The meaning behind these is as follows:
1) The front row of crosses honor our 9 brothers who made the ultimate sacrifice and lost their lives in the line of duty, reminding us to Never Forget.
2) The middle section pays tribute to the 343 brothers and sisters of the FDNY who perished on 9/11, as well as a WEA volunteer FF Steven Smith, who tragically lost his life while combating a local house fire, reminding us of the profound impact and sacrafice volunteers serve in our community.
3) The last row is dedicated to our retired brothers whom we have lost over the past year, celebrating and remembering their remarkable contributions to the city of Lafayette.
4) On the wall, etched in the stones are not only our LODD Fallen brothers, but every name of those who have served and retired from the Lafayette Fire Dept.

Our fallen firefighter service will be held on Memorial Day, May 25th, at 8:30 a.m. We invite everyone to join us on Monday to honor those who have have served at LFD. We also invite the community to feel free to just stop and visit, take a moment to reflect and read through the names of those who have selflessly served our community throughout the years.

Station 7 B spent the morning at Edgelea Elementary for Community Helper Day.
Students got the chance to meet firefighters, check out the fire truck, learn about fire safety, and see some of the tools we use every day on the job.
We always enjoy opportunities like this to connect with the community and hopefully inspire the next generation along the way.
