Concerning Lafayette Parish Voters Only
All Other Parishes Ballots can be different on Candidates
Please be advised of the following guidelines regarding the Closed Party Primary Elections for May and June 2026 Elections in Lafayette Parish due to legislation that was passed and Effective Jan 1, 2026!
If you have questions or concerns on this issue you will need to contact your legislator(s).
Please visit the website of www.geauxvote.com and visit the voter portal to verify your individual party affiliation on your voter registration application prior to the deadlines.
If you registered as Democrat on your voter registration application -
YOU WILL receive a Democratic ballot.
If you are registered as Republican on your voter registration application -
YOU WILL receive a Republican ballot.
NO PARTY (unaffiliated) VOTERS - SHALL be REQUIRED to fill out a" DECLARATION of BALLOT CHOICE" (SELECT ONE OPTION) PRIOR to VOTING: either during the Early Voting Period or on Election day. Remember this issue will delay the voters process for voting and could make longer waiting time in the voting lines.
Candidates have qualified already and you can study them and make your Declaration of Ballot Choice prior to the deadlines.
If you select to receive the Democratic Party Ballot on Declaration of Ballot Choice Form
You will be locked in for that party for the June 27 Election.
If you select to receive the Republican Party Ballot on Declaration of Ballot Choice Form
You will be locked in for that party for the June 27 Election.
Lafayette Parish Voters - If you select to stay No Party (unaffiliated) on Declaration of Ballot Choice Form you will only vote on the 5 Constitutional Amendments and the Parishwide Library Tax Continuation Proposition.
You will not have any candidates on your ballot until the November 3, 2026 Election.
If you do not make any selection on the “Declaration of Ballot Choice Form”, you will receive a No Party Ballot.
LAFAYETTE PARISH VOTERS that are considered as other registered parties, You will not have any candidates on your ballot until the November 3, Election . You will receive a ballot containing only the 5 Constitutional Amendments and the Parishwide Library Tax Continuation Proposition.
Deadline to change your party “In Person or by Mail” is April 15, 2026.
Deadline to change your party “Online” is April 25, 2026 using www.geauxvote.com.
Please note: If you change your party online before the deadline, please make sure it shows that it was submitted electronically.
