You never know what situations may arise at the start of your shift. Officer McElligott responded to a call at Legacy Park regarding a hawk trapped in the breezeway. With a little ingenuity, she successfully captured the hawk and released it safely without injury.

Chief Tim Hanks and UL Lafayette Police Department ask you help us congratulate Lt. Michelle Broussard on her retirement.

During her career from July, 1995 to February, 2026, Lieutenant Broussard earned the respect of colleagues and the community through her dedication, professionalism, and steady leadership. She served as a patrol shift supervisor, supervised the Communications Office, managed overtime detail scheduling, and handled numerous other responsibilities that kept the department operating efficiently. Many of the officers who worked under her guidance went on to serve in state, federal, and other local agencies, building highly successful careers shaped in part by her mentorship.

Thank you for your years of service and dedication. We hope you are able to relax and enjoy your well-deserved retirement!

Also, please remember, all University of Louisiana at Lafayette properties are a Firearm Free Zone, which includes Cajun Field.

Due to forecast weather conditions, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette will transition to remote instruction and remote operations on Monday, Jan. 26.

On-campus dining will continue normal operations on Monday.

The Drop/Add period has been extended through Wednesday, Jan. 28.

The University will continue to monitor weather and road conditions. An update regarding plans for Tuesday, Jan. 27 will be shared by 6 p.m. Monday.
