MSU Lafayette recently conducted a Shipyard Safety and Confined Space Entry Program audit to ensure full compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and United States Coast Guard safety standards.

These audits are critical to protecting our shipmates during dry dock periods and internal structural examinations, where hazards can increase significantly. By verifying proper procedures, training, gas-free engineering controls, and entry protocols, we help reduce risk and maintain a safe working environment.

Safety is not just a requirement — it’s a responsibility. Our commitment to oversight and accountability ensures every member returns home safely.

A great day here at MSU Lafayette! We had the honor of a visit from Sector NOLA Commander, Captain Callaghan; Sector NOLA Deputy Commander, Captain Burnham; Sector NOLA Command Master Chief Stough and Sector NOLA Prevention Department Head, Commander Velez. We went over important topics about the future for the Coast Guard, MST2 Sanchez and Mr. Perkins was recognized for their outstanding contributions to the unit, our team conducted a government initiated unannounced exercise at one of our regulated facilities and to top it all off, we held a holiday door decorating contest! Congrats to MST3 McCaskill and MST3 Hauquitz for winning the trophy and a great job for the creativity on the other doors! It definitely boosted morale for this holiday season!🎄

Important safety notice for our Local Maritime Community. As the weather gets colder approaching the winter and holiday season, it is important to keep in mind the increased risk to cold water exposure while out on the water. Even on warmer winter days in Louisiana, the water is still very cold! Ensure whether you are operating in a recreational or commercial capacity, you stay safe on the water this winter season! Wear extra layers, put on a life jacket, and keep rescue equipment readily available!
