The winners of the 2026 Susan Darling Memorial Scholarship in Public Service have been announced. Kloe McNew--La Fayette High, Briana Quarles--Ridgeland High, and Molly Ellis--Gordon Lee High. They and their families are invited to the next meeting of Walker County Democrats on Thursday, May 14, 7:00 pm at the La Fayette Library, 305 South Duke Street, La Fayette, GA 30728. Congratulations. The award carries a $500 scholarship for college.

There were many very good essays and applications submitted. Thank you to the committee of retired Walker County School Teachers who served as the jury.

Information on candidates (The county party cannot recommend in a primary race. May 19 is a primary for both parties to among their voters to choose top candidates to run in November 3 election). Shawn Harris (congress) and Jack Zibluk (state senate) are the only Democratic candidates in their races. They will automatically be on the ballot in November to run against the Republicans chosen in this primary.

In the lead up to the Runoff Election of April 7, there is lots going on. Here are some things you might want to participate in:

Saturday, March 28, NO KINGS DAY. There are several demonstrations in easy driving distance. Just go to the website and search. Chattanooga, Dalton, and Summerville will all have events and would welcome your participation.

Whitfield County Democrats fund raiser-Chili Cookoff at the Mack Gaston Community Center, 218 N. Frederick St., Dalton, GA; 11am-1pm. You can support our neighbors.

We have received 40 more Shawn Harris signs. They are in the barn at 472 Loughridge Lane, La Fayette, 30728 for you to pick up.

The Runoff Election: Early voting in La Fayette (311 S. Main) only, 9-5, March 30-April 2. April 7 vote 7 am-7pm at your precinct. Talk it up ! Many people do no know that there is an election.

A great group of Democratic Candidates spoke at the Shawn Harris Town Hall last night at the Walker County Civic Center. Candidates for every GA House and Senate seat in NWGA. Vote on April 7 in the Runoff for Shawn Harris for Congress and Jack Zibluk for GA state senate!!! People with sound ideas and good values.

What fun we had a the Shawn Harris for Georgia rally on Saturday at the Forum in Rome with Pete Butiegieg as guest. Huge crowd over 500. Great enthusiasm.
