On June 12, 2026, at approximately 9:00 a.m., deputies and Lanett EMS were dispatched to a residence on County Road 187 in the Cusseta area in reference to a 2 year old female child that was not breathing. Upon arrival, deputies rendered first aid until paramedics arrived. Lanett EMS transported the child to East Alabama Medical Center Lanier, where the child was pronounced deceased. The body is being transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for an autopsy. This case is under investigation by the Chambers County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division, the Fifth Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office and the Chambers County Coroner's Office. The name of the child will be released at a later time.

On June 10, 2026, at approximately 12:20 p.m., Chambers County deputies were dispatched to County Road 86 in reference to a vehicle parked on the roadway. Upon arrival, deputies located a deceased white female and white male in a wooded area near the vehicle. Agents from the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and Chambers County Coroner's Office responded to the scene and are handling the investigation. At this time, the bodies are being transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for autopsy to determine the cause of death. No names will be released at this time pending positive identification and notification of the next of kin.
