Thank you to the world famous artist, producer, songwriter, and manager Roi Chip Anthony for your endorsement!! I met him several years ago while setting up decor for “First Friday” at the Brass Room, and we have become such great friends. I am grateful he took the time out of his busy schedule to create this and encourage voting in our local communities. Michelle Living’s immediate action items for Lafayette Parish School Board District 4:

The schools of district 4 are facing 3 issues which affects our district tremendously: truancy, teacher retention, and literacy

1) Truancy and literacy go hand and hand. If the kids are not at school, they cannot learn and will have difficulty reading. I plan to work closely with the parents to get them to buy into their children’s education. I want to implement separate mentoring programs for the parents, boys, and girls. I will work closely with the schools’ CAFE programs with incentive ideas to help lower the truancy rate.

2) For teacher retention, I want to work on creating policies to pay teachers as much as I can until I can get their salaries where it needs to be. I want to implement incentive programs that attract quality teachers to our schools as well as retaining them. I would like to evaluate different options to decrease work loads and spread the work efficiently to improve their work and life balance.
