A Message from Chief Huff

September is Su***de Prevention Month, and I want to take a moment to speak directly to our first responder family.

We spend a lot of our time taking care of others. We show up on their worst days, see things that are difficult to forget, and sometimes carry more home with us than anyone realizes.

You do not have to carry it alone.

Whether you are a firefighter, police officer, dispatcher, EMT or paramedic—career or volunteer—there is no shame in saying you are struggling and no weakness in asking for help.

Check on your people. Not just after the difficult calls, but on the ordinary days too. Pay attention when someone seems different. Ask twice when “I’m fine” doesn't sound quite right.

And if you are the one struggling, please reach out. Talk to your crew, your family, a friend, a peer, or someone you trust.

We train to take care of each other on scene. We need to take care of each other off scene, too.

📣 HEY, CONNALLY ELEMENTARY 5TH GRADE PARENTS! 🔥🧯

The Lacy Lakeview Fire Department is excited to kick off our 2026 Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest!
This year’s theme is:
⚡ “Charge Into Fire Safety™ — Safe Charging Is a Superpower!” ⚡

The contest is open to 5th grade students attending Connally Elementary. Students will have the chance to get creative while showing us what they’ve learned about safely charging phones, tablets, laptops, scooters, and other devices that use lithium-ion batteries.

Winner will be announced during Public Safety Week at the school!

‼️‼️‼️POSTER ARE DUE TO THE OFFICE FOR FD PICKUP BY 9/15!!!!‼️‼️‼️‼️

Contest information and flyers have been delivered to the school, so be on the lookout for details coming home with your student.

Posters are due to school on 9/15!!!! Please encourage your students to have them completed and turned into the front office!!!!!

We can’t wait to see what our Connally Cadets create! 💙🤍

🚨 PLEASE AVOID THE AREA — ACTIVE FIRE INCIDENT 🚨

Lacy Lakeview Fire Department is currently assisting Waco Fire and multiple area agencies with a large fire in the 200 block of Charping Lane near TSTC.

🔥 Please avoid the area and allow emergency crews plenty of room to work. With multiple agencies, apparatus, and personnel operating on scene, unnecessary traffic can create additional hazards and delay emergency operations.

Please do not travel to the area to watch or take photos.

We appreciate everyone giving our firefighters and our neighboring departments the space they need to safely do their jobs.

Stay safe, and we will share additional information as appropriate.

Yep, we smell it too!

If you’ve stepped outside and thought, “Okay… what’s on fire?” — you’re definitely not alone.

The strong smell of smoke in our area is believed to be drifting in from wildfires burning well outside our area. There is no known immediate wildfire threat to our community at this time.

In the meantime, please keep the firefighters working these fires, their families, and the affected communities in your thoughts and prayers. These crews have a long fight ahead of them.
