A child’s body heats up 3-5 times faster than an adult’s. That means a parked car can become deadly in minutes – even on mild days. Every second counts when a child is left in a car. If you see a child alone in a vehicle, act immediately. Use free resources from the National Safety Council to educate everyone you know about safety risks: https://bit.ly/42vjbaF

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities and this nation.

Their courage, selflessness, and dedication will never be forgotten. Behind every uniform was a son, daughter, parent, spouse, or friend who answered the call.

At the Lacy Lakeview Fire Department, we proudly stand in remembrance of our fallen heroes and keep their families, friends, and brothers and sisters in the service in our thoughts today and every day.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

❤️🤍💙

Standing beside our brothers and sisters at Austin Fire Department during this difficult time. No firefighter should have to face threats or attacks while simply doing the job they swore to do — protecting lives and serving their community.

From Lacy Lakeview Fire Department to Austin Fire, we support you, we appreciate you, and we stand with you.

To every first responder: stay safe, stay strong, and know that your fire family across Texas has your back. ❤️🚒

AUSTIN FIREFIGHTERS THANK AUSTIN POLICE IN QUICK ARRESTS FOLLOWING SHOOTINGS AT AFD STATIONS AND ACROSS AUSTIN TODAY

The immediate, active threat, to our city has passed. Fire stations have ended their lockdown, the South Austin shelter-in-place was lifted, and two suspects are now in custody. Our thoughts and hearts go out to the victims of today’s senseless violence, to their families, friends, and to all traumatized by the threats of the day.

Austin firefighters join a grateful city in our thanks to our colleagues with Austin Police, Manor Police, Travis County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and every other law enforcement agency that assisted APD in the investigation and arrests.

We encourage our community to always report any suspicious activity, but to also remember that whenever you call, for whatever you need…Austin’s firefighters, police officers, and EMS professionals will be there. The City of Austin tip line remains open to anyone who may have additional information regarding a possible third, yet unconfirmed, subject. Please call 512-472-8477, your tip may be confidential and anonymous.

In 2025, 31 children in the United States died from vehicular heatstroke after being left in hot vehicles.

On average, 37 children die this way every year. Since 1998, more than 1,000 children have lost their lives in preventable hot car tragedies.

Motor vehicle crashes also remain a leading cause of death for children, and proper car seat use can reduce the risk of fatal injury by up to 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers.

These are not just numbers. These are children who should still be here today.

Please help us keep our kids safe:
🚗 Look before you lock
🚗 Never leave a child unattended in a vehicle
🚗 Use the correct car seat every ride, every time
🚗 Double-check that car seats are properly installed and adjusted

A few extra seconds could save a life. ❤️

Need help with your child’s car seat? Lacy Lakeview Fire Department offers appointment-only car seat checks. Call 254-799-2479 option 2 for more information.
