25 years later, we continue to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the countless families and communities forever changed that day.

We honor the firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, military members, and ordinary citizens who answered the call with courage and selflessness. We especially remember the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while trying to save others.

Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to service will never be forgotten.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

🚨FIRE ALERT🚨

On September 7, 2026, at approximately 2:47 AM, the Lacona Fire Department Inc., along with automatic mutual aid companies were dispatched by the Oswego County 911 Center to a reported structure fire at 60 Wheat Hill Drive in the Town of Sandy Creek, within the Lacona Fire District. Initial reports indicated that one occupant was trapped on the third floor of the residence.

Lacona Fire Department responded with 13-2-1 (Rescue Pumper), 13-4-3 (Tanker Pumper), 13-5-1 (Tanker), and 13-0-1 (Chief).

Upon the arrival of first-arriving personnel, the three story, wood-framed residence was found to be fully involved in fire. A second alarm was declared, bringing additional fire resources to the scene.

It was subsequently determined that the sole occupant had exited the residence by jumping from a third-story window. The occupant was located by emergency personnel and transported to a Syracuse-area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Fire suppression operations were immediately initiated, utilizing the deck gun on 13-2-1, followed by the deployment of multiple handlines from several engines. Due to the incident occurring in an area without fire hydrants, multiple portable water tanks were deployed and a tanker shuttle operation was implemented. The primary water supply site was established at the intersection of County Route 22 and County Route 15 in the Village of Lacona, allowing tanker operations to continuously supply water to the engines operating on scene, as well as the ladder truck from Pulaski Fire Department.

During fire suppression and overhaul operations, crews were able to safely enter the attached garage and remove several items that had not been damaged by fire, including multiple four-wheelers, snowmobiles, motorcycles, and lawn mowers.

Due to the extent of the fire and resulting damage, Lacona Command requested an excavator to the scene to assist with extensive overhaul operations following extinguishment of the main body of fire.

The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation at this time.

Lacona Fire Department remained committed to the incident for nearly six hours, returning to service at approximately 8:43 AM.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU

The members of the Lacona Fire Department would also like to extend a very special and heartfelt thank you to The Huckleberry Cafe for once again supporting our first responders.

Huckleberry Cafe prepared fresh breakfast sandwiches for the crews who remained on scene into the late morning hours. This is certainly not the first time Huckleberry Cafe has stepped up to support our members and other emergency personnel during an incident, and their continued generosity does not go unnoticed.

Community support like this means a great deal to the men and women who spend long hours away from their families serving others.

From all of us at the Lacona Fire Department - Thank you.

Job well done by everyone involved.

🚒❤️ THANK YOU FOR AN AMAZING OLD HOME DAYS! ❤️🚒

After many years, Old Home Days officially made its return to Lacona this past weekend, and we couldn’t be more thankful for everyone who helped make it such a great day!
