Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy every day and will never be forgotten.

As we spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day, let us also take a moment to reflect on those who made the ultimate sacrifice and the families who continue to carry that loss.

We are saddened to share the passing of former firefighter Ron Keyon, who lost his courageous battle with ALS.

Ron proudly served out of the Sparland Fire Station for 27 years, dedicating much of that time in various Captain roles. He was a respected leader, mentor, and friend, someone who could always be counted on when it mattered most. His commitment to the department and the community he served will not be forgotten.

Beyond the fire service, Ron was a dedicated farmer and was deeply involved in the community. Whether he was helping a neighbor, supporting local efforts, or lending a hand wherever it was needed, Ron embodied what it truly meant to serve others.

Ron’s strength was evident both on and off the fireground, and he faced his battle with ALS with the same courage and determination that defined his years of service.

Please keep Ron’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of serving alongside him in your thoughts and prayers.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of the fire departments who took the time to line the roadway in honor of East Peoria Police Department Detective Bob Vester during his funeral procession. Your presence was a moving tribute and a powerful show of respect, unity, and support.

Traffic Advisory – Thursday, April 30

Due to a large funeral procession, please expect traffic delays and intermittent lane closures on the following roadways:

Route 40: From the Marshall/Peoria County line to Route 17

Route 17: Eastbound to County Road 400 East

County Road 400 East (UP Church Road): To 650 North

The procession will begin at approximately 12:30 PM and is expected to conclude around 2:00 PM.

We ask for your patience and for everyone to remain respectful during this time.

Today, we pause to remember Firefighter Chaise Mangold, who made the ultimate sacrifice 5 years ago.

Chaise answered the call with courage, dedication, and a commitment to serving others that will never be forgotten. His bravery and selflessness continue to inspire not only our department, but the entire community.

Though time has passed, his memory remains strong in our hearts and in the fire service.

Please join us in remembering Chaise Mangold today.
