🚨 Illinois has a law named after a person. That's never a good sign — and you need to know this one.

Scott's Law is named after Lt. Scott Gillen, a Chicago firefighter killed in 2000 when a driver failed to move over for emergency vehicles on the shoulder of a highway.

He left behind a family. A law got named after him. That's a trade nobody wanted to make.

Here's what the law requires:
🔵 When you see emergency lights on the side of the road — police, fire, ambulance, tow trucks — move over one full lane.
🔵 If you can't move over, slow down significantly below the posted speed limit.
🔵 Violations can cost up to $10,000 and result in license suspension.

Here's what most people don't know: Scott's Law applies to tow trucks too. That guy changing your tire on I-74? Same protection. Move over.

🚗 That flashing light on the shoulder takes about 3 seconds to respond to. It costs zero dollars. And it might save a life.

Our deputies stand on the side of that road every single shift. Move over for them — and they'll keep moving for you. 💙
