Since January LVPD has been the proud host of three FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEEDA) training programs. The La Vista Public Library graciously let us host these sessions in their facility, which brought in representatives from agencies in the Midwest. These courses are taught by police chiefs from across the country, both active and retired, and they provide crucial leadership and management training for our sergeants and command staff.

The LVPD Honor Guard was front and center at last night's City Council meeting where Mayor Kindig read a proclamation for National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day, which both occurred last week. Last night we also celebrated two significant service milestones. Detective Jamie Baker is celebrating 20 years of service and Deputy Police Chief Todd Armbrust is celebrating 30 years with LVPD. Thank you both for your years of service!

Public Works is on scene and working on the fix, but for now please avoid the area if you can. If you have to travel through this area, treat the intersection as a four-way stop.

This is National Police Week, and we’re honored to recognize the men and women who protect our community every day.

National Police Week is a nationwide observance held each May to honor law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, as well as those who continue to serve with courage and dedication. Established following a 1962 proclamation by President John F. Kennedy, it includes Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15 and a week of ceremonies, vigils, and memorial services across the country.

For police officers, this week is deeply meaningful. It is a time to remember fallen colleagues, support their families, and reflect on the sacrifices that come with this profession. It is also a chance for officers and community members to stand together, reaffirming our shared commitment to public safety and service.

Throughout this week, we invite you to join us in honoring those who gave their lives in the line of duty and in thanking the officers who are serving our community today. A simple gesture, a kind word, or a wave, goes a long way in showing our officers and their families that this community stands beside them.

iPhone users, there's no panic like the panic when your device tells you your Apple account information has been updated...and it wasn't you. Before you panic, consider whether it's actually a cybercriminal on the other end.

Sometimes these messages will include a phone number to call to cancel whatever order was supposedly made on your account. But when you call and talk to the "support" person, you're actually talking to a criminal. They'll ask for your financial info or they may ask to install software that will allow them access to your device.

Follow these tips to avoid falling victim to this phishing scam:
• If you receive an unexpected email claiming that someone used your Apple account to make a purchase, do not call any phone number listed in the email. Instead, go directly to Apple's official website or open the Settings app on your device to check your account activity.
• Read emails carefully, even if they seem to come from a legitimate source. Unusual formatting or grammatical errors can be warning signs of a phishing email.
• Always stop and think before you act! Cybercriminals often create a sense of urgency to try and pressure you into making fast decisions.
