Probation is no easy task. It takes dedication, discipline, hard work, and a commitment to becoming the best firefighter you can be. These five have put in the work and earned their place on the job.

Today, we celebrate more than the retirement of a Captain Dave Bonanno. We celebrate 36 years of dedicated service to the City of La Verne.

His story began right here in La Verne. A graduate of Bonita High School, he grew up in the community he would eventually dedicate his career to protecting. He began his journey with the La Verne Fire Department as a Reserve Firefighter, and through years of hard work, commitment, and dedication, rose through the ranks to Firefighter Paramedic and ultimately Captain Paramedic.

Throughout his career, he gave far more than his time on the fireground. He served as President of the La Verne Firefighters Association, was a member of the Ambulance Operator Committee, and dedicated countless hours as a CPR Instructor, helping prepare both his fellow firefighters and members of the community to save lives.

For 36 years, he answered the call to serve the city he grew up in. He mentored firefighters, cared for patients, and represented the La Verne Fire Department with pride and professionalism.

36 years. One community. A lifetime of service.
Congratulations, Captain, on an incredible career and a well-deserved retirement. The La Verne Fire Department and the City of La Verne are better because of your service.

Let Our Firefighters Be Heard

Historically, current La Verne Council Members and the Mayor have been allowed to meet with LVFA members while on duty. This time, the City has restricted LVFA from meeting with Rick Bowen while on duty.

Rick has reached out because he wants to hear directly from the firefighters who serve La Verne and discuss his vision for public safety and our community.

Our members deserve the opportunity to hear from candidates and make informed decisions about La Verne’s future.

Congratulations to Max McCourt on his graduation of Los Angeles County Fire Academy 180. Max was an Engineer Paramedic here at LaVerne for several years and left for LACOFD when they tested for Lateral Paramedics. Pictured with Max is Tristan Janeway another Firefighter Paramedic that left LaVerne to go to LACOFD a few years ago. Congratulations Max and we wish you the best of luck in your new department.

It’s election time again and these three seats are up. I have been contacted for one candidate that will run against Kash and LVFA will gladly meet any potential candidate for our endorsement.
As a reminder Hepburn, Kash, and Johnson, along with Crosby and Lau all believe that three of our paramedics don’t deserve the paramedic bonus after becoming a certified paramedics as an added duty to being a Firefighter and believing in their own intent of the contract. The city has been paying tax dollars to fight it for several months still, so please remember this when you vote in the near future.

Our condolences go out to the family of Engineer Robert “BJ” Myers and to the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District for their loss. RIP Brother Myers.

Today LVFA 3624 held its second annual breakfast with retired fire department members. Battalion Chief Mike Vetti, Captain Dan Seawright, Engineer Keith Thompson and Engineer Dave Castanon were in attendance and it was great to see all doing well. Hope to o see you all and more retirees at the third annual breakfast. Thanks to all who helped make the breakfast a success.
