We honor the firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, and ordinary citizens who ran toward danger to help others. Their courage, sacrifice, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at approximately 4:45 a.m., the La Salle Police Department arrested Allen Leek, 54, of La Salle, on a La Salle County arrest warrant charging him with two counts of Burglary.

The charges stem from separate investigations conducted independently by the La Salle Police Department and Peru Police Department Investigation Divisions into business burglaries that occurred in La Salle and Peru during the month of July.

The La Salle Police Department’s investigation resulted in burglary charges related to incidents in La Salle, while the Peru Police Department’s separate investigation resulted in charges related to a burglary in Peru.

“Burglary investigations can be challenging and often require detectives to carefully piece together information and evidence to identify those responsible,” said La Salle Police Chief Jason Stubler. “Our detectives did an excellent job following the evidence and developing the information necessary to identify a suspect in this cases. We will continue to hold individuals accountable when they choose to target businesses in our community.”

Following his arrest, Leek was transported to the La Salle County Jail and later released in accordance with the provisions of the Illinois SAFE-T Act.

Leek is also currently on parole through the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Last week, the La Salle Police Department hosted the city's first National Night Out at Hegeler Park. It was a night full of fun, community involvement, and bringing people together. The City of La Salle Police Department joins statewide Labor Day traffic safety effort
focused on impaired, distracted and unsafe driving

La Salle, IL – The City of La Salle Police Department is proud to be one of over 200 law enforcement agencies across Illinois participating in the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns this Labor Day. From Aug. 14 through the early morning hours of Sept. 8, officers will be out in force, focused on stopping impaired driving, enforcing seat belt laws and reducing other dangerous driving behaviors.

“Driving under the influence — whether it’s alcohol, cannabis or any other impairing drug — is not just risky, it’s illegal,” said Sgt. Ray Gatza. “We’ll be patrolling with zero tolerance for impaired driving, because our goal is to protect the people of the City of La Salle.”

Officers will also be enforcing seat belt laws as part of the “Click It or Ticket” initiative. Buckling up is the most effective way to prevent serious injury or death in a crash. Everyone in the vehicle — front seat or back — should be properly buckled, every trip.

In addition to alcohol, officers will be on the lookout for drivers impaired by cannabis and other drugs. Messages like “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI” are part of a statewide education and enforcement effort aimed at saving lives.

“We want our community to enjoy the holiday weekend safely and responsibly,” said Sgt. Ray Gatza. “Plan ahead, use a designated driver, and never get behind the wheel impaired. These decisions save lives.”

This local effort is part of a larger statewide campaign supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation, which administers the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns with federal highway safety funds. The initiative is reinforced by IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” media campaign running across radio, TV and digital platforms to highlight the deadly consequences of impaired driving.

The City of La Salle Police Department releases speed enforcement numbers

La Salle, IL – The City of La Salle Police Department conducted a traffic safety campaign throughout the month of July reminding motorists to slow down to save lives. The speed enforcement effort was conducted by the City of La Salle Police Department and other state and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois to reduce highway fatalities.

During the campaign the City of La Salle Police Department issued:

• 84 - speeding citations
• 5 - seat belt citations
• 2 - suspended/revoked licenses
• 3 - uninsured motorists
• 109 Total Citations were issued.

The speed enforcement effort was made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

What a Night in La Salle!

Tonight’s National Night Out was something special, and I couldn’t be more proud of the men and women of the La Salle Police Department and La Salle Fire Department. Our officers and firefighters worked together to make tonight a great night for our community, and they represented our city with professionalism, pride, and a genuine commitment to serving others.

A huge THANK YOU to all of our community partners, local businesses, organizations, volunteers, and everyone who helped make La Salle's first National Night Out a huge success. Your generosity and support made this event possible.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who came out tonight. Seeing families, children, residents, police officers, and firefighters together is exactly what National Night Out is all about. It's about building relationships, strengthening trust, and bringing our city together.

This was our first National Night Out, and I think we set the bar pretty high. But we’re already looking forward to making next year bigger and better!
