This is a message from Mayor Helton.
Our staff has been working tirelessly to ensure that everyone's needs are met following a busy weekend. Here are some highlights:
- Residents were able to pick up essential supplies at our cooling centers, including 1,000 cases of water, nearly 1,400 bags of ice, and 800 cases of Meals Ready to Eat.
- We collaborated with the Salvation Army to provide 300 hot meals to residents in need, and the Regional Point of Distribution supplied meals and water for 3,897 vehicles.
The Salvation Army will be in La Porte today at noon to provide hot meals to those in need. If you or someone you know needs a hot meal, please visit the Salvation Army at the Lomax Rodeo Arena located at 1508 Lomax School Road. They will serve hot meals until they run out.
As we continue to address Hurricane Beryl's impact, the Jennie Riley Center, Brookglen Community Center, and La Porte Community Library will remain open as cooling centers until more residents have their power restored.
As of 3:45 PM on Sunday, there were 1,815 outages in La Porte. Electrical crews are working diligently to restore power to the affected areas, and we understand the frustration this situation has caused.
As a reminder, storm debris pickup will begin today. Please remember to separate your vegetative debris from your construction material debris into distinct piles. Our contractor will sweep the city for trees, limbs, and other vegetative debris caused by Hurricane Beryl. Additionally, they will pick up construction materials such as fencing.
I want to extend my heartfelt thank you to all the departments and crews who have been working non-stop to restore our city, including Public Works, Parks & Recreation, GIS, Fire Department, EMS, Police, and electrical crews. There is still a lot of work to be done, and your city remains committed to the work ahead.
If there is anything you need, please don't hesitate to reach out to my team. Thank you for your understanding, and please stay safe.
