Charles County Commission for Women The Charles County Commission for Women works to raise awareness of issues affecting women and families.

The Charles County Commission for Women was established on April 23, 1996, by the Charles County Board of Commissioners for the following purposes:

1) To act as a referral agency source for women needing assistance.
2) To support and encourage volunteer programs of benefit to women.
3) To publicize activities and services of interest to women.
4) To encourage educational and job training opportunities for women.
5) To promote public forums on women’s needs and problems.
6) To advocate and publicize newly passed proposed legislation that affects women.
7) To promote continued equal opportunity in education, employment, sports and health care for women.
8) To operate at all times and in all matters as a non-political, non-partisan commission. To achieve this goal, our government must be operated in an open and accessible atmosphere, be based on comprehensive long- and short-term planning and have an appropriate managerial organization tempered by fiscal responsibility. Yesterday, the Charles County Commission for Women came together for our annual retreat, a time to reconnect, reflect, and set our priorities for the year ahead.

Our focus remains clear: advocating for women, girls, and families across Charles County.

Throughout the day, commissioners discussed key areas that will guide our work, including:

* Caregiving and family support
* Mental health and wellness
* Housing, safety, disability, and accessibility
* Workforce and economic empowerment
* Civic engagement and advocacy
* Strategic community partnerships
* Greater access to information and resources

We also spent time strengthening our committee plans, identifying community partners, and mapping out opportunities to educate, advocate, and connect women and families with the resources they need.

This retreat was about more than planning— it was about turning priorities into action.

We are excited about the work ahead and look forward to continuing to serve as a strong voice for women and families throughout Charles County.

We would like to thank our partners Fort Washington Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Sorority, Incorporated; Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated - Epsilon Alpha Phi Zeta Chapter Stella's Girls Southern Maryland Chain - MD Chapter, The Links Incorporated in supporting our 2nd Voices & Vision: MeetHER Candidates Session to help us provide a safe space for women to learn more about why women are running in this election and to encourage other women to get involved in the political process. All women running for office in Charles County were invited to share their stories about why they chose to run. Thank you to our male ally who showed up to support the event.

To our male allies, be on the lookout for a session in the fall to be able to hear from women on what their priorities are as we head in the general election.
