Shout out to the church across the street from our station, La Plata Church of Christ, for inviting our Life Member Allen Hayden to join them on National Night Out earlier this month. They enjoyed an outside movie and great community interaction. These are some of the notes of appreciation they sent. Thank you Allen for representing us!

We would like to join our neighbors to the south, Bel Alton Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. , in congratulating Lt. Travis Walden of Charles County's DES on his retirement.

We want to wish one of our favorite Department of Emergency Services employees a happy retirement. Lt. Walden has been assigned to our station since the beginning of our partnership with DES to house the SMDO. We will miss him shouting “go get em brothers” when we leave the station for calls, his great conversations and stories, and his humor. We wish you the best in your retirement and we’re so happy that your years long countdown to this day has finally come to an end (IYKYK 😂). Congrats Lt. Walden! 🫶🏻

Last night we served a double. hosted another leadership presentation at 6:00 PM and we had members from several other stations join us both in person and remotely. Then we followed it up with a drill at 7:00 PM on negotiating our internal website members area, which our newer members found very helpful. Our more seasoned members appreciated the refresher, and many questions and suggestions made for a very interactive evening. Two for one!

Last night our members celebrated CCVRS' 74th Annual Awards Banquet and Installation of Officers. The theme was Midnight in Rio, with all the bright colors and beads and feathers. But the decor was the backdrop...the night was really about appreciation. Appreciation for our members who run the calls, and appreciation for the administrative members who make sure we have what we need to run the calls. Appreciation for the leaders who take on additional roles, all without pay. CCVRS was the first volunteer rescue squad in Charles County. Established in 1952, our volunteers are the reason we still exist to serve our community 24/7/365. To all our members past and current, we say a heartfelt thank you.
