Congratulations to Paramedic Kelshaw on achieving EMS Children Clinician of the year! Such a prestigious award and well deserved ππ»ππ»ππ»ππ»
Each year, during EMS Week, MIEMSS honors exceptional EMS clinicians, programs, and incident responses for the important role that they play in the chain of survival with the Star of Life Awards. In addition, the Right Care When It Counts Awards recognize children and youth whose quick thinking and courageous actions made a vital difference during an emergency.
Today, MIEMSS leadership is traveling to Montgomery County to present several Star of Life Awards, including: Program Innovation of the Year (Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, for its Advanced Ventilator Treatment Program); EMS-Children Clinician of the Year (Charles County DES Paramedic Caitland Kelshaw; and EMS Clinician of the Year (MCFRS Battalion Chief Peter Dugan). We will also present Right Care When It Counts Awards to a Montgomery County 16-year-old who drew upon CPR instruction at her high school when her father suffered sudden cardiac arrest; a Gaithersburg 12-year-old who helped to save a 3-year-old and draw the attention of first responders when a flash flood swept the vehicle in which they were traveling off the road; and 8-year-old twins from Calvert County who quickly summoned help and cared for a younger sibling when their mother suffered a seizure. Join us for these award presentations today at 1:00 p.m. at Montgomery County Public Safety Headquarters, 100 Edison Park Dr., in Gaithersburg.
