Charles County Public Schools The Board of Education of Charles County establishes educational and fiscal policy, provides overall direction and governs Charles County Public Schools.

Board members serve four-year terms. A non-voting student member serves a one-year term. Board members are Chairperson Yonelle Moore Lee, Esq.; Vice Chairperson Nicole M. Kreamer; Dottery Butler-Washington; David Hancock; Nicole M. Kreamer; Letonya Smalls, Ed.D.; Jamila Smith; Brenda Thomas; and Samichie Thomas. The Student Member of the Board is Munachi Obinali. nd Tuesday of most months during the school year at the Jesse L. Starkey Administration Building located at 5980 Radio Station Road in La Plata. Tuesday meetings begin with executive session at or around 12 p.m. The public portion of the meeting begins at 1 p.m. Recognition begins at 4:30 p.m. and Public Forum is at 6 p.m. Meetings are open to the public. Work sessions and special meetings are scheduled throughout the year, as needed. Board meeting agendas and times are subject to change. Community members are invited to participate in Board meetings by speaking at Public forum. Registration for Public forum begins 30 minutes prior to the start of the meeting and speakers have three minutes to address the Board about educational issues. Public forums are generally held at 6 p.m. at both the monthly meetings and work sessions. The purpose of Public forum is for the Board to receive information for review and consideration. Speakers should not expect an immediate response or verbal exchange with Board members. All Board of Education meetings are televised live on the school system’s educational television stations, Comcast Channel 96 and Verizon FiOS Channel 12, and are streamed live on the school system website, www.ccboe.com. The lobby of the Charles County Department of Social Services (DSS) building in La Plata has a new look thanks to Zyan White, Phoenix International School of the Arts (PISOTA) student. White completed the mural last year while he was in fifth grade at Walter J. Mitchell Elementary School. The artwork was recently installed on the walls in the lobby of the DSS building. From 5 to 7 p.m., families will hear from school and community safety experts and have the opportunity to participate in conversations about keeping children and families safe.
