HONORING 80 YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED

During last evening’s bi-monthly business meeting, Maryland State Firefighters Association (MSFA) Executive Committee Member Randy Smith, on behalf of the MSFA, presented special recognition to the Cobb Island Volunteer Fire & EMS Department and the Hughesville Volunteer Fire & EMS Department in honor of their 80 years of distinguished service to the citizens of Charles County and our surrounding communities.

This remarkable milestone represents eight decades of dedication, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment by generations of volunteer firefighters, EMS personnel, auxiliary members, and supporters who have proudly served their respective communities.

The Charles County Volunteer Fire and EMS Associations extend our sincere congratulations and appreciation to the past and present members of both departments for reaching this significant milestone.

We also extend our sincere thanks to Randy Smith for traveling to Charles County to personally represent the Maryland State Firefighters Association and participate in these special presentations. Randy continues to represent the MSFA with professionalism, dedication, and a strong commitment to Maryland’s volunteer fire and emergency medical services.

Thank you, Randy, for your continued support of Charles County’s volunteer fire and EMS community, and congratulations to Cobb Island and Hughesville on 80 outstanding years of service!

SEPTEMBER 11 — WE WILL NEVER FORGET 🇺🇸

To our brothers and sisters in Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, Emergency Communications, and Public Safety throughout Charles County and across our nation:

We pause to remember a day that forever changed America — September 11, 2001.

We remember the innocent lives taken from us.

We remember the 343 FDNY firefighters who climbed those stairs while thousands of others were trying to escape.

We remember the law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, emergency communications professionals, military members, and countless others who ran toward danger when every instinct told others to run away.

They did not ask who needed them.
They did not ask whether it was safe.
They simply answered the call.

Many never came home.

In the years that followed, far too many first responders lost their lives to illnesses connected to their service at Ground Zero and the other attack sites. Their sacrifice is also part of the legacy of September 11.

For those of us who wear — or have worn — a badge, a uniform, a helmet, or a radio, September 11 carries a special meaning. It reminds us of the tremendous responsibility that comes with answering the call for help.

Twenty-five years later, their courage still speaks to us.

It tells us to serve with compassion. To look after one another. To put differences aside. To remember that our greatest strength has always been found in standing together.

To every firefighter, EMT, paramedic, law enforcement officer, dispatcher, emergency manager, and public safety professional in Charles County and beyond — thank you for continuing to answer that call.

And to the families who kissed their loved ones goodbye on the morning of September 11, 2001, never knowing it would be the last time — we remember with you.

We remember the lives they lived, the people they loved, and the courage they carried into the darkness.

We remember the names spoken with reverence, the sacrifices that can never be repaid, and the promise that time will never erase what happened.

Their courage remains with us.
Their sacrifice remains with us.
Their memory remains with us.

As long as we continue to speak their names, honor their service, and stand together in their memory, they will never truly be gone.
