Follow the ABCs of water safety & prevent drowning!

✅ Adult Supervision:
Assign a responsible adult to actively keep an eye on the water without any distractions. Keep non-confident swimmers within arm’s reach.

✅ Barriers:
Install and maintain multiple barriers for protection, including fences, gates, safety covers, and alarms.

✅ Classes:
Sign up for CPR, first aid, and swimming classes. Even confident swimmers need active supervision around water.

Behind the scenes tour at fire station 61🔥

It’s always fun to see a fire fighter suit up in turnout gear, but it’s even better watching our guests give it a try!

Turnout gear is heavy and can be hard to move in, but it’s built to protect from extreme heat, flames, sharp debris and hazardous conditions. This gear is essential when responding to structure fires, vehicle fires, rescues, and other high risk scenarios.

Make sure your little ones stay safe on the water this season. Swim safety starts with the right life jacket and the right fit. 🛟

Always choose one that’s Coast Guard approved, matches your child’s weight, and has proper head support for infants.

Remember: water wings & inflatable rings are toys, not safety devices.

Yesterday, OCFA firefighters from stations 13 and 61 participated in the Every 15 Minutes program in La Palma.

The Every 15 Minutes program is designed to show the real life consequences of impaired and distracted driving through a simulated crash and live emergency response.

Students from Kennedy High School, along with CHP, La Palma PD, and other partners, all played an important role in bringing this scenario to life.

We’re proud to help bring this message to our community and encourage safe, responsible driving.

Drowning is fast, silent, and preventable!

Here’s why water safety matters in Orange County:

💧In 2024, 89 drowning incidents occurred in Orange County

💧36 incidents involved children aged 0-4 years old, and 27 involved adults over 50 years old

💧Most drownings in 2024 occurred at a backyard pool, spa, or community pool

❗️Remember - Always swim with a buddy, designate a responsible adult water watcher to supervise children, swim near lifeguards, wear a life jacket if needed, have rescue equipment nearby, and know CPR

A broken fire hydrant can rapidly flood a street in just minutes, so it’s important to act fast. Firefighters from Station 63 worked quickly to shut off the water supply when a hydrant was struck by a vehicle in Cypress.

Did you know that most hydrants are designed to break away at the base? When hit by a vehicle, the hydrant separates instead of damaging the underground water main.
