If you'd like a Board Member with passion for excellence in education, integrity in servant-leadership, extensive experience in education at various levels, and a love for children and their families - I humbly ask for your support and vote. Growing up in a working class neighborhood as a dual-language learner taught me what it means to face adversity and overcome it. As a classroom elementary tea
cher for 14 years and a professor for another 14, I know first-hand how education policy truly impacts our students. I saw the achievement gaps in our students and took it upon myself to develop a dual-language program to strengthen cross-cultural teaching in schools and make education truly effective. As a professor of Spanish and Education at Biola University I developed 4 degree programs focusing on child development and learning. Now, I exclusively focus on my own business developing curriculum for young children with the research my team and I have accomplished. I have been married for a little over 38 years. We have two adult children and am grandmother to two boys. My whole family serves in education. My husband is an HVAC technician in higher education, our daughter is a school readiness nurse and our son is a physical education teacher for elementary grades 1 through 5. Our family has lived in La Mirada for 14 years. In my spare time, I keep active by playing tennis, walking our Maltese, doing CrossFit, Zumba and mountain biking. My husband and I have been active in our local church communities for over 40 years. As your board member, I will bring my life's work to collaborate as a strong team with a focus on improving our school district and safeguarding the parent's role in each child's educational journey. I look forward to meeting you, and humbly ask for your vote.
