Yesterday, the La Joya Police Department had a wonderful time attending the Palmview Police Department’s National Night Out!

Officers took the opportunity to meet and engage with community members, answer questions, and build stronger local connections.

During the event, the department handed out STEP booklets and presented essential travel safety tips for Texas roadways—reminding everyone about the importance of buckling up and obeying posted speed limits.

A big thank you to the Palmview Police Department for the invitation and for hosting such a fantastic event for our communities!

As our students head back to class, traffic around school zones, crosswalks, and bus stops will increase.

Please help us keep our children safe by keeping these quick tips in mind:
- Slow Down: Obey posted speed limits in active school zones.
- Stop for School Buses: Never pass a stopped bus with its flashing red lights and stop arm extended.
- Put Away Distractions: Avoid using cell phones or texting while driving, especially near schools and crosswalks.
- Watch for Pedestrians: Yield to students using crosswalks and expect increased foot traffic during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.
