La Jara Police Department Seeking Assistance Locating Missing Person Michael “Miguel” Gallegos

The La Jara Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in locating Michael “Miguel” Gallegos, who was last seen on or around September 6, 2026. Gallegos is currently listed in the CCIC and NCIC databases as a missing person.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Michael “Miguel” Gallegos is asked to contact law enforcement immediately.

IMPORTANT PARK & MAIN STREET NOTICE

The Town has temporarily removed all trash receptacles from our town parks and Main Street due to increased bear activity. Bears have been getting into the trash cans while searching for food.

To help keep both our community and our wildlife safe, the trash receptacles will remain removed until bear activity subsides. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding during this time.

Please help us by packing out your trash and keeping our parks and community clean.

⚠️BEAR SIGHTING IN TOWN — PLEASE KEEP YOUR DISTANCE! ⚠️

We wanted to let everyone know that a bear has been spotted in town today and is currently visible to the public.

We know it can be exciting to see a bear, but please do not approach, follow, chase, or gather around it.Bears are naturally fearful of people and usually want to avoid us. However, when a bear feels scared, stressed, surrounded, or trapped, it can react defensively and become dangerous.

A few important reminders:

•Please bring your pets inside,and keep them away from the area.
•Do not leave pet food or other food outside.
•Keep garbage secured and away from the bear.
•Keep dogs leashed and away from the area.
•Please do not approach the bear for a picture or try to get a closer look.
•Please do not gather in groups to watch the bear.This can cause the bear additional stress and make the situation more dangerous.

Even if the bear appears calm, it can react quickly if it feels threatened.

The best thing we can do is give it plenty of space and a clear path to leave.Please help us keep our community, pets, and the bear safe.

The Town of La Jara would like to remind residents that there have been recent bear sightings within the Town of La Jara. While wildlife sightings can occur from time to time, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and take precautions to help prevent bears and other wildlife from being attracted into our community.

Residents are also reminded that House Bill 26-1342 establishes requirements related to securing attractants from bears and other wildlife, and residents are expected to comply with the applicable requirements.

Residents are encouraged to secure garbage, avoid leaving pet food or birdseed outside, and remove other potential food sources that could attract wildlife.

Please be aware of your surroundings and help keep our community, families, pets, and wildlife safe.

The Town of La Jara is seeking input from residents regarding animal control and animal-related concerns within our community.
Animals are a valued part of our community, and residents may have differing experiences and perspectives. This survey will help the Town better understand what residents are seeing and experiencing throughout La Jara.

The purpose of this survey is to gather community input and better understand the needs and experiences of La Jara residents. Responses will help the Town Board consider opportunities to improve animal control, education, resources, or other services.

This survey is for information-gathering purposes and does not constitute a determination that any particular animal or property is in violation of Town ordinance.

Due to a potential water main break near the Catholic Church, the town will be isolating water mains, and shutting off water service until the leak is located. For questions or concerns please call town hall at (719)274-5363.

Effective today the Town of La Jara is in a Stage One fire and firework ban until further notice.

UPDATE: The owners have been located and he is safe and back home. We cannot thank our amazing resident Jenna Burris for picking him up and this morning and making sure he was safe until his owners were located.

The Town of La Jara is asking for your help in locating the owner of this handsome boy.

We have attached a photo of the vehicle the owner was driving, and in the video you can see the dog running alongside the vehicle. It appears the owner may not have realized their dog was chasing after them.

A kind and caring resident safely picked him up and is bringing him to town employees until his owner can be located.

Please help us find his family by sharing this post. We want to reunite this sweet boy with his owners as quickly as possible. If you recognize the dog or the vehicle, please contact La Jara Town Hall.
