Summer is a busy season for our Public Works team as they work hard to keep La Grange reliable, welcoming, and well-maintained. From street maintenance and pothole repairs to tree trimming and parkway care, these improvements help keep our community moving all season long.

If you see crews out working, please slow down, give them space, and thank them for the work they do every day to maintain our streets and neighborhoods.

Keeping La Grange beautiful, safe, and well cared for takes all of us.

The Village’s Code Enforcement & Property Maintenance team works year-round to help preserve the character of our neighborhoods and business districts by responding to concerns and proactively addressing property maintenance issues throughout the community.

Common violations may include:
• Tall grass and weeds
• Garbage, junk, or debris accumulation
• Peeling paint or exterior deterioration
• Inoperable or unlicensed vehicles stored outdoors
• Unsafe structures or conditions
• Construction projects completed without required permits

Residents can easily report potential concerns through the Village’s “Report a Concern” portal: https://villageoflagrangeil.portal.opengov.com/categories/1076/record-types/6521
Submissions are fast, convenient, and may be made anonymously. The portal can also be used for Village right-of-way concerns and refuse service requests.

Working together helps keep La Grange welcoming, attractive, and enjoyable for everyone.

Thinking about building or upgrading a deck this season? Before the first board goes down, make sure your project is permit-ready.

Deck permits help ensure your new outdoor space meets important safety, structural, and building code requirements designed to protect your home and family.

Whether you’re adding a brand-new deck, expanding an existing one, or making major repairs, review the Village’s deck permit requirements before starting your project.

Our Public Works crews continue to respond to the aftermath of the last two days of storms, with a significant amount of downed branches and limbs remaining throughout the community, particularly south of 47th Street.

Storm brush collection efforts are ongoing, and crews will likely continue pickups into early next week as they work through the affected areas. We appreciate residents' patience as staff safely and efficiently clear storm debris and restore our streets and parkways. Thank you to our Public Works team for their continued hard work and dedication following these storms.

With additional rain and storms in the forecast this evening, Public Works crews have been proactively working throughout the community to prepare.

Following yesterday's storms, field crews have been inspecting and clearing debris from catch basin inlets to ensure proper water flow. These proactive efforts help maximize the effectiveness of the storm sewer system and reduce the potential for localized flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.

If you observe clogged inlets, flooded streets, or other drainage concerns, complete a Flooding Event Report Form following any flooding event: https://www.lagrangeil.gov/forms.aspx?FID=77

Public Works will respond during normal business hours. After hours, please contact the Police Department's non-emergency line: (708) 579-2333

Batteries power so many of the devices we use every day, but did you know they should never go in your curbside recycling or trash?

Improper battery disposal can cause fires in garbage trucks and recycling facilities and can harm the environment.

Starting January 1, 2026, Illinois law requires battery manufacturers to fund battery collection programs for residents.

Quick battery safety reminders:
• Never throw loose batteries in the trash or recycling
• Tape battery terminals (the ends) before storing or transporting
• Stop using batteries immediately if they are swollen, cracked, overheating, or giving off an odor
• Store batteries away from heat and direct sunlight

Whether it’s AA batteries, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, or old car batteries, there’s a safe way to dispose of them responsibly.

Find a local, free battery drop-off location and learn more about proper battery safety and recycling practices: https://batterynetwork.org/state-recycling-laws/illinois/

As one of downtown La Grange’s most beloved landmarks, the fountain continues to be a gathering place where residents and visitors can relax, connect, and enjoy the heart of our community. Surrounded by local shops, restaurants, and the downtown transit hub, this charming centerpiece has welcomed generations and remains a favorite stop during warmer days in the Village.

Whether you're meeting friends, enjoying a walk downtown, or simply taking in the atmosphere, the fountain helps make downtown La Grange such a special place to gather all season long.

A friendly reminder: while the fountain is beautiful to enjoy, swimming or bathing in the fountain is prohibited due to water sanitation chemicals used for maintenance.

What’s your favorite memory or tradition involving the downtown fountain?
