π Weβre honored to be featured in the Chicago Tribune.
The story captures something we see every day at CARS: a ride is rarely just a ride.
For our VIPs, it can mean getting safely to a doctorβs appointment, the grocery store, or the bank β but it can also mean companionship, conversation, friendship, and the ability to continue living independently.
The article highlights longtime volunteer Jan Matheny, who has been driving with CARS for 20 years, and Anna, 87, who has relied on CARS for seven years. Anna summed up what makes the program so special beautifully: βCARS is extra special because of the driver β itβs like family members.β
Today, approximately 195 volunteers help serve about 475 VIPs throughout 22 communities, with CARS coordinating more than 100 rides during many weeks. And those rides remain free for the older adults we serve.
Weβre incredibly thankful to the Chicago Tribune for sharing the people and relationships behind our mission β and to every volunteer, donor, partner, and VIP who makes this community what it is. ππ
