City of La Grange Kentucky The state legislature formally incorporated the city on January 23, 1840.

Founded as the County seat in 1827, La Grange was relocated from Westport and named for Château de la Grange-Bléneau (French), and American Revolutionary hero Marquis de Lafayette.
