Kendall Grant, the director of the St. Cletus Social Concerns Ministry in LaGrange, said it’s not just those who are broke and jobless who need help. It’s also those who are working and not able to make ends meet.

“The math isn’t mathing anymore and it hasn’t been for a while,” she said. “It’s getting to a breaking point for folks.

“It’s people who are trying to do everything right and care for their households and there is no way to make up that difference.”

Grant pointed out her group tries to make people feel welcome when coming to St. Cletus. She said that needing services and missing payments causes “very intense stress” and she wants to alleviate that.

“We have a kid’s corner, we have a playground, we know people by name,” she said. “It’s this delicate balance where we are trying to normalize the experience for people and recognize that none of this is normal. None of this should ever be normalized.”

Alivio Medical Center joined us during distribution to provide information about health care services and other resources including on-site blood sugar screenings and blood pressure checks. They will be back 9/17, weather permitting!

We had a special visitor recently! Our new Associate Pastor, Fr Robert Marchwiany jumped in to help distribute frozen meat and other items to neighbors who came for food assistance. Thank you!

Are you a high school student passionate about service, leadership, and making a difference? We’re excited to launch our NEW St. Cletus Food Pantry Junior Board!

This is a great opportunity to gain leadership skills, get involved with the pantry, and help fight food insecurity through service, advocacy, fundraising, and creative community outreach.

Junior Board members will participate in meetings, volunteer opportunities, and special projects throughout the year.

Applications are now available and are DUE OCTOBER 1!

We were recently invited to join a roundtable with Representative Sean Casten, Northern Illinois Food Bank, and other area food advocacy organizations and pantries. As the cost of basic necessities like groceries continues to rise, food pantries and community organizations become an ever more important lifeline for children, veterans, seniors and families. We appreciate the opportunity to advocate for policy change that affects all of us, especially our most vulnerable neighbors.
