Exciting expansion of the Justin Hurst WMA!

More room for wildlife! 🦌 🦆 🐠

A 2,500-acre expansion of the Justin Hurst Wildlife Management Area in Brazoria County now connects 17,500 acres of habitat on the Texas coast including ecologically significant coastal prairies, wetlands, and marshes.

The expansion was made possible thanks to an acquisition from the Ward family--who stewarded the property for generations--through a partnership between the Coastal Prairie Conservancy and Texas Parks and Wildlife.

Funding for the purchase was provided by a RESTORE Act grant, established following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Long-term plans for the property include increased public access along with special permit hunts and scheduled tours.
