The Museum and Archives will be open this Saturday, the 28th, but we will be closed the following two Saturdays--first, because of the Labor Day weekend and, second, because Wyatt and Rox Ann have been asked to present a program to the German Texan Heritage Society conference in Columbus on September 12th.

Our program topic will be the Heilig daybook in our Archives, written in German by a young Bluff School teacher from September 1874 to November 1876. He lived with the family of Dr. Albert H. Eck, and writes of numerous local families--for instance, the Kreisches, Nordhausens, Denckers, Stiehls, Rosenthals, Streithoffs, Praetoriuses, Presuns, Seydlers, Willrichs and many others. We're cleaning up the translation now and will be sharing what we've learned in the diary over the next few months.
