Last night, Brush 47, Brush 48, and Command 4 deployed to assist La Grande Rural Fire Protection District on a two-alarm wildfire in the Ladd Marsh area. We were joined in efforts from our Union County mutual aid partners and the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF).

The incident was triggered by lightning strikes from a passing thunderstorm. Despite initial precipitation, prolonged seasonal drought conditions and high ambient temperatures drove aggressive fire behavior.

During the incident, off-duty personnel provided station coverage to maintain uninterrupted emergency response capacity for the City of La Grande.

We are thrilled to celebrate FF LePage as he officially completed his probation. We celebrated earlier this week with his official pinning ceremony. His hard work, dedication and commitment to our department throughout this process have been exceptional and we are proud to have him locked in as a full-fledged member of the team.

This milestone also marks a massive organizational win for us: we are officially fully staffed and every single member of our department is now off probation. With our crew at full strength, our next major milestone is getting our paramedic students through their schooling.

Huge congratulations again, FF LePage!

City of La Grande Fire Department Bans Fireworks and Outdoor Recreational Fires

The City of La Grande Fire Department has implemented a temporary ban on the use of all fireworks, outdoor burning to include recreational fires, cooking fires and charcoal fires, beginning immediately. This is due to the unusually high temperatures and dry conditions the area is experiencing. We recognize the hardship this may cause on community members but with the extreme temperatures and high risk of fires this is a necessary precaution.

Cooking stoves and fire pits fueled by liquefied or bottled fuels and pellet stoves are allowed. These appliances must be a minimum of three feet away from any flammable or combustible material.

Violators of this ban may receive a citation.

This ban will remain in place until weather and moisture conditions improve and it is officially lifted by the City of La Grande Fire Department.

Our department personnel continue to demonstrate dedication to public safety, stepping up to assist on their scheduled days off during the ongoing Hagen fire.

Currently, our members are working alongside the Oregon Department of Forestry(ODF) to handle night shift patrols, securing and monitoring the perimeter of the fire. We are proud to work side-by-side with regional partners from across Union County, including the Imbler Rural Fire Department, the Cove Rural Fire Protection District, and the North Powder Rural Fire Protection District, in a coordinated effort to protect our communities.

We would not be able to assist in these efforts without the support from our citizens and our City Council, whose commitment ensured we are properly equipped with two Brush Engines to take on wildland fires.
