Across the country, firefighters and communities are finding their own ways to honor the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Today, our crews have honored them in many different ways — from stairs to 343 burpees, each with the same purpose: to remember.

At Station 4, the crew took on the stair climb and even invited a special guest to join them.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Last year we sat down with Chief Buley as he shared about being on duty September 11, 2001.

We’re sharing his story again this year because the weight of his words hasn’t changed. Neither has the importance of remembering.

Today, we remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the courage of the first responders who ran toward danger.

August was full—700+ calls for service, hours of training, and plenty of time spent out in the community connecting with the people we serve.

Behind every number are people: crews showing up when the community needs them, firefighters putting in the work to stay ready, and conversations and connections happening all across La Crosse.

So before we fully dive into September, here’s a look back at a very busy August.

This week, we’re getting to know Firefighter Zach, who’s spent the last two years serving the northside from Station 4. Whether he’s keeping his crew fed or bringing his calm, steady presence to the community, Zach is always ready to lend a hand (or a spatula)

And while he’s busy serving the community, Zach has another pretty important role on the horizon… Dad-to-be!

Congratulations to Zach and his wife as they get ready to welcome their first little one! We’re pretty sure this next adventure will be his most rewarding one yet.

Yesterday afternoon, our crews responded to an apartment fire on Buchner Place. With 20 firefighters on scene, crews worked quickly to contain the fire and make sure everyone — including four furry residents — made it out safely.

We’re grateful for the teamwork of everyone who helped support the response.

Last Friday, Chief Schott traded the station for a serving line at ADRC’s annual Cheers to the Years picnic!

He came back with reports of great conversation, good camaraderie, and, of course, excellent potato salad.

We were happy to be part of such a wonderful event celebrating our community’s seniors. Thanks for having us, ADRC!
