Recently a Salvation Army volunteer who is graduating from college summarized her volunteer time at The Salvation Army of La Crosse.
We are so grateful for the many volunteers that help us with our mission. It is even more powerful when they also realize the benefits of volunteering.
Here is what she had to say.
I have been able to volunteer with the Salvation Army since my junior or senior year of high school, and now that I am graduating college, it continues to be a meaningful part of my life.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this experience is seeing firsthand the impact I can have on my community. The people we serve are incredibly kind and respectful, and working with them always brightens my day. I understand that these individuals are going through rough patches of their lives, but the positivity and kindness they bring when talking with them is remarkable.
Through this volunteer experience, I have also been able to strengthen my relationship with my mom. I volunteer with her on Sunday’s to serve food, and these times have been some that I have greatly valued. I am forever grateful to this organization for being able to bring my mom and I closer together.
Lastly, working with the cooking team has been a privilege. To see the dedication these people have to the community, and to witness their work ethic is inspiring. Not to mention, the patience and compassion they bring with them to work. I truly believe that I have started to change my behavior to model their benevolence.
This experience has altered my life on an individual, familial, and community level. I am so grateful to be a part of this organization that is helping our area in such an impactful way. I am excited for my continued involvement with the Salvation Army in my future!
