During August 2026, average temperatures across the Upper Mississippi River Valley ranged from 64.7°F at Medford Taylor County Airport, WI (AWOS) to 72.4°F at La Crosse Regional Airport, WI (ASOS). The hottest temperature was 91°F on August 31 at La Crosse Regional Airport (ASOS); Necedah, WI (CRN); Sparta, WI (ASOS); and Winona Muniicpal Max Conrad Field Airport, MN (AWOS). Meanwhile, the coldest temperature was 41°F at Black River Falls, WI (RAWS) and Medford Taylor County Airport, WI (AWOS) on August 24.

Rainfall across the Upper Mississippi ranged from 1.21" near Alma, WI (CoCoRaHS) to 6.63" near Dickeyville, WI (CoCoRaHS). The highest 24-hour rainfall occurred near Dickeyville, WI (CoCoRaHS) when 4.21" of rain fell from July 31 through August 1.

On September 4, La Crosse had a low temperature of 74F. This surpassed the previous record of 73F set back in 1960 and 2014. Daily temperature records date back to October 15, 1872.

Storm chances reach locally western counties in southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa overnight into Sunday morning, moving east along and north of Interstate 90 locally affecting counties in central WIsconsin into Monday.
