We've heard from community members who wanted a little more time to recognize the incredible women making a difference across the Coulee Region. Because of the strong interest, nominations will now be accepted through Monday, August 24.

Today, we commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964—a beacon of hope and a testament to what’s possible when people unite with courage and purpose. This landmark legislation confronted systemic racism, segregation, and discrimination, moving our nation closer to the promise that every person deserves justice, peace, and dignity.
But this anniversary is not only a moment of reflection—it is a call to action. As civil rights protections face ongoing threats, we are reminded that the work is far from finished. Each generation must rise to defend and expand these hard-won freedoms.
Its legacy continues to shape our world—and it calls us to keep moving forward, working together to build a more just and equitable future for all.
