North Woods International School in La Crosse is a candidate for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program and pursuing authorization as an IB World School starting with the 2018-19 school year.

We've had lots of visitors in the past few weeks! Our intern's boyfriend José came from Spain to plays some typical Spanish games. We had university students from Japan come and teach us about origami. And we had some students from China come and tell us about their country. Fun things happening in third grade!

The pictures aren't great because of the dim lighting for our relaxing day of reading, but everyone had a wonderful time reading all day and raising money for our friends in Nicaragua! We had donuts and hot chocolate in the morning and root beer floats in the afternoon!

Lots of fun things this week! A visit from one of our fellow third graders' dad who shared about his time in Antarctica...fit right in with our polar regions unit! An author visit from children's book author, Patricia Polacco. And Global Play Day...which half was spent outdoors doing our winter Olympics!

North Woods in the news two days in a row! We had a wonderful visit from children's books' author, Patricia Polacco. All of our students will get to take home to keep a book by Patricia Polacco!

Patricia Polacco said she wants kids to know that through kindness and perseverance, anyone has the power to change the world.

Students at North Woods International School took part in Global School Play Day Wednesday morning.

We had some fun during yesterday's early release day! We finished up our life-sized penguins from December and learned about animal adaptations in the polar regions. Penguins have waxy feathers on their skin so that they don't absorb water and freeze. We showed this by covering a penguin with crayon and seeing that water droplets don't absorb into the paper. We also learned and experimented with why many polar animals have layers of blubber.
