Nice message for Juneteenth

Happy Juneteenth.

Today, we honor the Black women who have long led with courage, broken barriers, and strengthened our democracy through service to their communities. Their leadership reminds us that representation matters and that building a more inclusive future requires all of us.

Today, we celebrate freedom, honor those who came before us, and recognize the leaders continuing the work today.

On June 14th, 2025, Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were taken from us. On that same day, the Houston County DFL was set to walk in the Caledonia Founder’s Day parade. The mood was grim and stricken with grief. But we didn’t let it stop our walk. We wore black arm bands in their memory and marched for them.

This Saturday we will march again to continue their memories.

This summer, we'll be holding an in-person town hall meeting in every county across Minnesota's first congressional district, because you deserve a representative who will show up, listen, and work to solve problems.

As I've traveled across southern Minnesota, I've met so many people who are frustrated that Brad Finstad hasn't held a single in-person town hall in four years. How can you represent people if you won't meet with them?

That's why I'm visiting all 21 counties this summer to hear directly from the people of southern Minnesota. Every town hall will be open to the public, and I'll take questions from the audience without any pre-screening or gatekeeping. You don't even have to register to attend. So whether you're a Republican, Democrat, Independent, or anything in between, I hope you'll join us!
