Kindergarten Explorers in Action! Mrs. Zimmerman’s and Ms. Jungquist’s kindergarteners have been diving into the wonders of estuaries, learning all about the animals and ecosystems that thrive in these special habitats.

To bring their classroom learning to life, students took a hands-on field trip to the Padilla Bay Interpretive Center, where they deepened their knowledge, asked great questions, and explored with curiosity.

Then, under sunny skies, they headed to Bayview State Park to experience the estuary up close, observing, discovering, and making lasting memories in nature.

What a beautiful day of learning, connection, and discovery for our youngest Braves!

A Day of Local Discovery!
Ms. Stacy Silver’s 4th and 5th grade students recently stepped beyond the classroom for a memorable walking field trip through the heart of our town, visiting both the Museum of Northwest Art (MoNA) and the Skagit County Historical Society Museum.

At MoNA, students explored the rich legacy of the Northwest School art movement, experiencing the creativity that helped define our region's artistic identity in the mid-20th century. Founded in 1981 by Art Hupy, this museum continues to celebrate the power of local expression and imagination.

Just up the hill, students stepped into the stories of our past at the Skagit County Historical Society Museum. From early settler life to the vibrant history of our valley, the museum brought our local heritage to life, connecting our learners to the people and places who came before them.

We are so fortunate to have these incredible cultural treasures in our own backyard. Thank you to the dedicated staff and volunteers at both museums for making learning come alive and to Ms. Silver for inspiring curiosity and connection in every student.

Exciting News! On Monday evening, the La Conner School Board officially approved Marcus Knowles as our new Elementary Principal!

Welcome, Principal Knowles! Marcus brings over 20 years of experience in education, having served in various roles including paraeducator, elementary teacher, high school CTE instructor, intervention specialist, dean of students, and assistant principal. His experience covers kindergarten through high school, with a strong emphasis on science education and supporting positive schoolwide systems for both instruction and behavior.

Marcus lives in Anacortes with his wife Lara, a third-grade teacher, and their two children. Deeply rooted in a family of educators, Marcus believes that strong relationships with students, staff, and families are the foundation of a thriving school. He has also collaborated closely with community organizations such as the Anacortes Schools Foundation, Anacortes Arts Festival, and Goodwill’s Youth Aerospace Program to promote equitable access to engaging curricula and resources.

Mr. Knowles will begin his role on July 1, but you may see him around campus in the coming weeks as he facilitates a smooth and thoughtful transition. We are thrilled to welcome Marcus to the La Conner Elementary community and look forward to the leadership, care, and collaboration he will bring to our district. Join us in giving him a warm Brave welcome! 💙
