FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Severe Winter Storm Advisory – Residents Urged to Stay Off Roads

The Baraga County Sheriff’s Office is advising all residents of Baraga County to remain at home and stay off area roadways until the current winter storm passes.

The storm, which began early this morning, is expected to bring extremely dangerous travel conditions across the county. Forecasts indicate snowfall totals could reach up to 40 inches in higher elevations, accompanied by winds of up to 60 miles per hour. These conditions are expected to continue through early Tuesday morning.

Heavy snowfall combined with strong winds will likely create whiteout conditions, significant drifting, and extremely hazardous travel. Emergency services and road crews may also experience difficulty responding due to these conditions.

Residents are strongly encouraged to:

Stay home and avoid all unnecessary travel.

Allow county road crews time and space to clear roadways.

Prepare for possible power outages by ensuring you have necessary supplies.

Check on elderly neighbors or those who may need assistance, if it can be done safely.

Only emergency travel should be attempted during this storm. Staying off the roads will help ensure the safety of both residents and emergency responders.

The Baraga County Sheriff’s Office will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as conditions change.

For emergency assistance, dial 911.

The safety of our community is our top priority. Please stay home and stay safe.
