HYD will be attending the SMTX Pride event happening Sept 12th @ 7am-6pm.

We are looking for volunteers to help us with tabling. There will be merch, a raffle, and an opportunity to spread the word about our organization and what we do for our local community.

HYD really ended August with a BANG as we held and attended multiple successful events this month, including:

• Monthly general meeting where Kristin Hook was a key speaker
• VDR training, hosted by our VP CJ
• Block walk for Hook
• LBJ Bash

📷 This month, HYD is hosting VDR training to prepare for the upcoming Election season! People will be needing to register to vote, and you can easily serve your community by becoming a VDR!

❇️ When: Thursday, August 27th, 6:30PM
❇️ Where: Hays County Elections Center

Join us to become Volunteer Deputy Registrars (VDRs)! Our very own Vice President, CJ Cetina, will be doing the training, so we become VDRs and register people out in the field for the November election. Our Hays County Elections Staff will administer the VDR test-taking.

We encourage all to study the VDR Guide from the Texas Secretary of State beforehand.

Afterwards, we'll socialize at a nearby restaurant.

📷 Reminder: General Meeting this Sunday, August 23rd, 2pm, at the Hays Dems HQ in Kyle (RSVP for location)

📣 We will hear from our candidates Kristin Hook and Tanya Lloyd, who are running for Congressional Districts 21 and 27.

Please come prepared with questions and learn more about their positions and what they plan to do when elected!

We will be hosting volunteer opportunities to help with their campaigns, starting with a block walk for Hook on August 29th!

❗ We are also looking for Officers! The HYD Exec Board voted to add two additional positions to the board.

📢📢 CALL TO ACTION:

The City of Kyle’s infrastructure staff, Parks & Rec staff, and Procurement Division staff are taking the biggest hit with mass layoffs. The procurement division ALONE facing budget cuts of 53%.

The public library will face more defunding, and potentially lead to a decrease in operations.

Meanwhile, KPD is planned to receive a massive increase of funds of *1.2 MILLION*. If approved, KPD would become one of the most bloated departments in the state. With rumors that KPD wants *another* Flock Drone.

That’s not all. Important and expensive expenses are seemingly left out of the budget proposal.

While the city faces a dire financial situation, the recently approved traffic re-analysis and forensic audit have been left out even though they could cost anywhere from tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

⭐️ SPEAK OUT:
Tell Kyle City Council:

-> Add the forensic audit and traffic study to the budget proposal

-> Spend the 1.2M on city services and infrastructure

-> Ask: Why doesn’t the police department have to make budgetary sacrifices while the rest of the city goes underfunded?

Special council meeting: August 1st, 5:30 PM at Kyle City Hall. Arrive early to sign up for public comment. Each person will have 3 minutes.
