The Third annual Kutztown Community Bike Rodeo was a success!

This event would not have been possible without the support of:

AAA Berks for their continued commitment to bicycle safety and education.

The Kutztown Lions Club for providing food for our participants and volunteers and for the many members who donated their time to help make the event a success.

The Kutztown Optimist Club for their generous donation and support of youth programs in our community.

Reading Hospital for providing injury prevention education and volunteers who helped teach important safety lessons to our young riders and their families.

The Kutztown Area School District for hosting the event and providing an excellent location for the community to gather.

Kutztown Fire & Rescue for joining us, bringing equipment for participants to explore, and helping educate the public about fire and emergency services.

Thank you also to all of the volunteers, officers and thier families, parents, and especially the children who came out to participate. Your enthusiasm and energy made for a fantastic day of learning, fun, and community engagement.

Working together, we are helping make our roads safer and encouraging a lifetime of safe cycling habits for the next generation.

It’s summer, and the rock garden needs some color!

Come out for Rock Painting Day at the Kutztown Train Station on Saturday, June 27 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

All supplies will be provided, so just bring your creativity. Paint a rock with a fun picture, bright colors, or a positive message to help bring some smiles to the Kutztown “Rocks” garden by Borough Hall.

This is open to ages 6 and up, and it’s a great way to spend a summer morning doing something fun for the community.

Can’t make it? No problem. You can still paint rocks at home and drop them off in the rock drop box by Borough Hall.

Let’s turn that brown and sad rock garden into something bright, colorful, and full of good vibes!

We want to express our sincere gratitude to Ms. Debra Gilbert for her continued generosity. She has thoughtfully and consistently provided meals to our officers during the holidays, a gesture that truly means more than words can express.

The meals are not only greatly appreciated, but they also lift the spirits of our officers working on holidays and remind us how fortunate we are to serve such a supportive community.

Calling all Scout troops and youth groups!

Our upcoming Bike Rodeo may offer Scouts the opportunity to complete a substantial portion of the Scouting America Cycling Merit Badge while building real-world bike safety skills.

Participation in the rodeo can help satisfy portions of the following Cycling Merit Badge requirements:

✅ Requirement 1 – Cycling hazards, defensive riding, visibility, and safe riding practices
✅ Requirement 3 – State and local bicycle laws, traffic rules, lane positioning, signaling, turns, and intersections
✅ Requirement 4 – Proper helmet fit, weather-appropriate clothing, and BSA bike safety guidelines
✅ Requirement 5 (a-f) – Bicycle inspection, equipment compliance, bike fit adjustments, brake and gear adjustments, lubrication points, and flat tire repair
✅ Requirement 6 – Bicycle handling skills including mounting, starting, stopping, emergency stops, straight line riding, turning, shifting, scanning, and signaling

Mileage ride requirements would still need to be completed separately.

Less than a month away! As the weather gets warmer, it’s time to start planning to attend the third annual Kutztown Bike Rodeo!

Bring the kids out for a fun-filled day of biking skills, safety education, games, and community fun. Whether your child is just learning to ride or already cruising with confidence, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

BURN BAN LIFTED – KUTZTOWN BOROUGH

The burn ban previously put in place by Mayor Jim Schlegel has now been lifted.

That said, this does not mean anything goes.

Reminder on Open Burning Regulations in Kutztown Borough:

Under Borough ordinance, open burning is defined as:
The burning of any materials, including but not limited to wood, paper, hay, straw, or other combustible substances, where smoke or emissions go directly into the outdoor air without passing through a chimney, stack, or enclosed chamber.

For something to be considered a permitted enclosure such as a fire pit or lawn stove:
✔️ It must be designed so combustion occurs within an enclosed chamber
✔️ Only necessary openings for airflow and exhaust are allowed

✔️ When permitted, fires must meet ALL of the following:
• At least 10 feet from any structure
• Constantly attended by a responsible person
• Must not create a safety hazard from smoke or emissions

❌ Still NOT permitted:
• Burning trash or household waste
• Burning construction or demolition materials
• Any fire that creates excessive smoke, odor, or nuisance conditions

As always, the focus is on education first. That said, unsafe or illegal burning will be addressed when necessary.

Use common sense. Conditions can change quickly, and fires that start small can get out of control fast.
