We’re excited to officially introduce our new Kuna Police Chief, Chad Hessing!

Chief Hessing was sworn in during last night’s City of Kuna Idaho Council meeting, stepping into the role following Chief Fratusco’s retirement.

For Chief Hessing, serving as Kuna’s Police Chief is more than just a new assignment---it’s personal. He grew up near Kuna, attended Kuna High School, and has strong ties to the Kuna community. Becoming Chief of Police for the Kuna contract has long been one of his professional goals.

Chief Hessing brings more than 15 years of experience with the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, serving in the jail, patrol, criminal investigations, court security, and Eagle Police. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation for putting people first---supporting his deputies, strengthening relationships within the agency, and serving the community.

When he’s not at work, you’ll likely find him out on his farm caring for cows, pigs, chickens, and goats, riding his tractor, or enjoying Idaho’s outdoors hunting, fishing, and camping.

Please join us in welcoming Chief Hessing to his new role!

After more than 23 years of service with the Ada County Sheriff's Office — along with six years of active-duty service in the United States Coast Guard and two years in the Idaho Air National Guard — Chief Mike Fratusco is retiring!

Sworn in as Kuna Police Chief in 2020, Mike took great pride in the partnerships built between the City of Kuna Idaho and Kuna Police. One of his proudest accomplishments was being part of helping to establish Kuna’s first standalone police substation — a space built specifically for the police department, owned by the city, and created through strong teamwork and shared vision.

Thank you, Chief Fratusco, for your service to our country, our community, and the people of Kuna. We wish you all the best in retirement.

Today a few of our sergeants, deputies and detectives got to take a cool-down break with students from a local elementary school. They enjoyed otter pops and showing their cars and equipment to the group.

Connecting with the community always makes our day a little better!

With Kuna’s continued growth in 2025, investing in people is what matters most. Adding new and dedicated personnel means faster response, stronger support for victims, and a safer, more connected community.

We are excited to see what is in store for the KPD in 2026!

Deputy Frank Gamma was named Police Officer of the Year by the Kuna Grange this weekend!

If that mustache looks familiar, there’s a good chance you’ve met Deputy Gamma at a community event or out on the roads in Kuna. As one of our motor deputies, he made 1,760 traffic stops over the past year—showing just how committed he is to keeping our community and roadways safe.

He’s also the kind of teammate who steps up without being asked, covers shifts when needed, and brings a positive, professional attitude to every interaction.

Congratulations, Deputy Gamma—we’re grateful to have you on our team.
